Senior Communications Officer – DNDI Geneva

The Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) is a collaborative, patients’ needs-driven, non-profit drug research and development (R&D) organization that is developing new treatments for neglected diseases.

Purpose of the position

The Senior Communications Officer is a member of both the Corporate and Scientific Communications teams. She/he is responsible for writing, editing, and proofreading text for print and digital media, and for a variety of internal and external audiences. In addition, she/he contributes to integrated communications planning for specific campaigns or publication dissemination.

The Senior Communications Officer also plays a ‘continuity’ role for corporate and scientific communications staff who do not work full-time, including by liaising with external service providers, reviewing communications and other outputs to ensure consistent use of corporate visual branding guidelines, and supporting the scientific communications pipeline for publications and conference attendance.

Specific job responsibilities

Writing, editing, copy-editing, proofreading

  • Writes, edits, copy-edits, and proofreads text produced by other staff, including those in other departments and regional offices, for a range of print and digital media, including: 
    • Short-form publications such as brochures, leaflets, fact sheets, issue briefs, briefing notes, announcements, etc.
    • Internal and external e-newsletters
    • Internal-use Q&A, talking points, background notes, meeting reports, etc.
    • Copy for infographics, presentations, etc.
    • Formal letters and correspondence, save-the-dates, etc.
    • Scientific communications materials for events – e.g., summaries of scientific work for non-scientists

 Corporate & scientific communications planning & delivery

  • Supports the project management of corporate publication production, when needed, by liaising with staff (e.g., for information or text validation) and external service providers (e.g., translators, designers, printers)
  • Supports the project management of scientific communications for publications and conferences, e.g., abstract and presentation review, follow-up with scientific teams on conference and manuscript submission
  • Contributes to integrated communications planning (i.e., considering print, digital, press, and other media), including for the dissemination of scientific findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Reviews visually branded content from regional offices and other departments to ensure consistency with corporate branding guidelines, as needed
  • Contributes to the production of presentations for the executive office, as needed
  • Supports the planning and coordination of scientific events
  • Manages the corporate communications calendar and archives

  • Experience working in global health and non-profit sectors highly desirable

Education

  • Graduate degree in communications or journalism, or relevant combination of education in communications/journalism with public health or science
  • Formal training as an editor an advantage

Other requirements

  • Native English speaker
  • Proficiency in other languages, particularly French, Spanish or Portuguese, an advantage
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Suite

  • She/he works closely with all Corporate and Scientific Communications colleagues, and interacts often with others working in Communications, including the Digital and Press teams, and communications staff in DNDi’s regional offices

4. Develop and maintain a range of print and digital materials to effectively and proactively communicate the CHS Alliance’s mission, vision and main messages to key global audiences. This includes managing the copywriting and production of the Annual Report and other publications, production of leaflets, case studies, newsletters, social media toolkits, animations, videos and other materials as required;
5. Manage the editorial calendar and content, including copywriting, for the monthly CHS Alliance newsletter;
6. Maintain and update content on the CHS Alliance website using the Content Management System, to ensure information is current, clear, concise and engaging;
7. Lead on media relations, working closely with the Head of Membership and Communications to identify opportunities for proactive media outreach and drafting reactive messages.

  • Technical and scientific knowledge of HIV/AIDS is a strong plus
  • Comfortable presenting to leadership and public audiences about the communications work of the IAS
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills; a demonstrated ability to create persuasive and clear communications in all forms, for a variety of audiences
  • Strong organizational skills, coordination skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with meticulous attention to detail and tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of relevant international and domestic broadcast media, a keen sense of what makes and shapes the news, and the ability to make well-informed decisions in targeting appropriate media outlets and reporters
  • Stress tolerance and resilience, ability to work under pressure with multiple and shifting priorities
  • High-energy self-starter who can operate with minimal supervision but also knows when to ask for counsel
  • Ability to work well as a team member, as well as work independently.

Languages: 

  • Native English or full professional proficiency is a requirement
  • Knowledge of other languages is an asset.

Vos missions
Coordonner le travail de l’équipe communication et encadrer ses collaborateurs
Développer et mettre en application la stratégie ainsi que la politique de communication de la Ville de Fribourg, à l’interne comme à l’externe
Planifier et superviser la stratégie de communication générale et digitale
Promouvoir l’image de la Commune dans le respect des budgets alloués
Conseiller le Conseil communal et les Chefs de service (promotion, communication et moyens de marketing…)
Contrôler la bienfacture, la chronologie et la fréquence des supports de communication (flyers, communiqués de presse, rapport de gestion, programme et bilan de législature…)

Votre profil
Master complété par une spécialisation en communication, marketing ou communication digitale (par ex brevet fédéral ou formation équivalente)

Importantes qualités relationnelles, entregent, capacité à travailler en réseau
Excellentes capacités rédactionnelles en français (en allemand également serait un atout)

Website Redesign Project Manager – OHCHR – Geneva

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Programme Officer (Website Redesign Project Manager) will be responsible for the following duties: • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the OHCHR.org Global Website Redesign Project; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions. • Acts as the principal coordinator for the project team, content managers and producers in the Communications Section regarding progress and status of assigned deliverables. • Performs consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change. • Manages relationships with all third-party entities (consultants and vendors). • Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources. • Assists in policy and quality standards development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies. • Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems / issues and prepares conclusions. • Prepares various written outputs, e.g. communications to project stakeholders, regular reports on the status of project progress, risks and finances, highlighting any potential exceptions or changes in the plan, etc. • Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc. • Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities. • Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.). • Performs other duties as required.
