An interesting forthcoming workshop in Lausanne:
Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 September, Lausanne – Visual language and graphic facilitation workshop – with Sarah Clark
An introduction to the techniques of using hand-drawn visuals in a range of professional contexts, including group facilitation, coaching and training. You will learn the basics of visual language and how to use a mix of simple drawings, colour, words and metaphors to develop and share ideas, record presentations and meetings, and engage and energize groups.
Thinking that you can draw is absolutely not a prerequisite— if the techniques interest you and you’re prepared to experiment, please join us. We will spend a large proportion of the day practising and sharing within the group. Engage both your right and your left brain and have fun!
The deadline for registration is 24 August.

Dr Anne Gregory is Professor of Corporate Communication at the University of Huddersfield and current Chair of the Global Alliance, the world-wide body of over 60 national and international public relations associations which is a recognised NGO by the UN. During a recent visit to Switzerland, Dr Gregory addressed Swiss PR professional at the AGM of Prsuisse in Zurich. During her visit, Dr Gregory was interviewed by Marion Starck of Starck Public Relations. Below is an excerpt of the interview, with a link to the full article.
According to Anne Gregory, the PR profession is facing nothing less than a paradigm shift. In her presentation, Dr Gregory showed how over 80% of their organisations’ value is comprised of the sum-total of their intangible assets and how communicators should see it as their primary role to interpret and redefine the issues that surround them, thus enabling effective communication throughout their organisations.
The next lunch meeting of the UN Geneva designers community is planned for 20 May 2015 hosted by OCHA. The meeting is an informal gathering open to graphic designers and visual experts working in the UN to discuss opportunities and challenges.

As part of the Certificate of advanced Studies « Visible or invisible: design in international organizations », Ruedi Baur, and the University of Art of Geneva (HEAD – Genève) in partnership with The Graduate Institute Geneva (IHEID) have organised a series of lectures on the issues of representation and design of intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations; a series of 10 seminars to better understand issues of images and communication at a global level and to decode interactions between citizens and organizations.
Next one will be the sixth seminar:
Different approaches to design in response to crisis situations
16-17 April 2015, UNHCR, Rue de Montbrillant, Geneva.
This seminar will bring together and analyse the various exemplary projects carried out by designers for humanitarian organizations and other NGOs, and will present the places where research and other experiments are being conducted around the world. Various approaches will be considered, not in order to contrast them, but to assess their relevance in response to the various issues. Analysis of work commissioned, or not commissioned, from designers will allow needs to be assessed and, perhaps, the reasons for certain failures to be understood. The first day of the seminar will consist of a succession of case studies, each lasting 20-30 minutes. The examples will be chosen to show a broad range of approaches and issues. Designers will present their projects in dialogue with their clients, to reveal both the benefits and the drawbacks of each experience. These examples will be enriched by others that concern social sectors but are not actually work commissioned by NGOs. The second day will be devoted to analysis of these cases. Guest observers will endeavour to draw conclusions.
