First Geneva Communicators Breakfast – 30 March 2007

Following a number of positive reactions to a breakfast series, the Geneva Communicators blog is pleased to invite you to a  first  “Geneva Communicators Breakfast” featuring guest speaker Dr Tom Watson from the School of Media, Bournemouth University,UK.

Theme:  Challenges in planning and evaluating public relations and communications programmes

Date: Friday 30 March 2007

Time: The event will kick off at 08h20 and conclude at around 09h15.

Venue: International University in Geneva, ICC building (ground floor), Rte de Pré-Bois – 1215 Geneva  (underground parking is available – follow signs to ICC parking).

Coffee and croissants will be provided by the International University in Geneva.

Brief profile of Dr Tom Watson:

Dr. Tom Watson is Reader in Communications at the Media School, Bournemouth University, UK. He was, until recently, Head of the School of Communication at Charles Sturt University in Australia. He has researched and written extensively on evaluation of public relations programmes and is co-author of Evaluating Public Relations – A Best Practice Guide to Public Relations Planning, Research and Evaluation, published in 2005 by Kogan Page, which has been translated into Japanese, Korean and Russian.  Before entering the academic world, Dr Watson had a 25-year career in corporate and consultancy public relations. From 2000 to 2002, he was chairman of the UK’s Public Relations Consultants Association.  Dr Watson also developed and introduced the Consultancy Management Standard which is a benchmarking and accreditation standard used by PR industry bodies in the UK and several European countries.

You are invited to an IABC roundtable lunch in Geneva at Chez Jacky, Rue Necker 9-11 (near Geneva Cornavin railway station).

There will be a theme for discussion: “Be Heard – the new brand tagline of the IABC. Do we really make ourselves heard? Success stories and roadblocks in our professional lives.”

Geneva Event – Learn more about “Second Life”

Arvetica, the Geneva business strategy consultants are offering an “Arveticast” (presentation and apero) on the evening of Thursday 1 March  2007 on the subject of “Second Life” – the new internet-based virtual world.

The agenda will be the following:

1. understand Second Life:

  • what is it?
  • who uses it?
  • why is it so popular?

2. explore the Second Life business space:

  • what are big companies doing there?
  • what business opportunities can we imagine?

Presentation & Apero: Long Tail – The End of Mass Markets?

Arvetica, the Geneva business strategy consultants are offering an “Arveticast” (presentation and apero) on the evening of Thursday 15 February 2007 on the subject of the very popular business book “The long tail –  why the future of business is selling less of more”:

Alex (of Arvetica) will briefly explain the concept of the long tail and focus on its implications for executives and the businesses they manage. In a nutshell, the Long Tail explains that profits are increasingly made in a mass of niche markets as opposed to markets dominated by blockbuster products for mass markets.
