We are happy to announce our next workshop day!

Workshop day :  Friday 29 January 2016 at Webster University Geneva – featuring three workshops (Note: you can only attend one workshop in the day!):

Cost: 480 CHF for GCN members, 600 CHF for non-members

Workshop 1: Communicating through images
With current technology producing and disseminating an image seems very simple. But how do we choose the right subjects? How do we frame the image? And which are the best channels for disseminating the image to generate effective results? Through both theory and practical exercises, this workshop will offer elements of image/photo composition, framing and post-production, together with technical hints for communications professionals.

In the current, multi-channel communications environment, strategically managing social media is a must for every organization or corporation. And that goes far beyond tactical postings and interaction with individuals or groups, even if they belong to your defined target audiences. New Board Game helps improve your Communication Skills

John Zimmer, our local public speaking expert, has designed and produced a fun new board game designed to help improve one of the most important and sought-after communication skills: public speaking.

GCN lunch wrap up

Thanks to all the participants who attended our lunchtime seminar on December 11th. Melitta’s presentation on “Writing for the Web” was very appreciated and provided some very good guidelines to keep in mind when designing a website.

This will be our last event for this year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members for their ongoing support and positive feedback. We wish you all a happy holiday and a great start to the new year.

2016 will be our 10 year anniversary. We are working on a new website as well as more exciting events and workshops.

Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 December, Lausanne – Visual language and graphic facilitation workshop – with Sarah Clark

An introduction to the techniques of using hand-drawn visuals in a range of professional contexts, including group facilitation, coaching and training. You will learn the basics of visual language and how to use a mix of simple drawings, colour, words and metaphors to develop and share ideas, record presentations and meetings, and engage and energize groups.

Thinking that you can draw is absolutely not a prerequisite— if the techniques interest you and you’re prepared to experiment, please join us. We will spend a large proportion of the day practising and sharing within the group. Engage both your right and your left brain and have fun!

Halloween photography course

For anyone interested in joining a basic introduction to photography course. Francesco Arese Visconti is organising a workshop the week-end of 31 October. Here are the details:

INTRO TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

This is a two-day introductory course to basic digital photography. Students will be able to become more comfortable with using a DSLR camera, learning about their adjustments, how to photograph using manual settings, how these adjustments affect the final image and how to adjust photographs on the computer. Students will learn how to digitally process their images using basic Photoshop elements and format them for print or for the web. There will be discussions about photography as a visual language of communication and artistic expression

Schedule

Day 1
10 – 13:Theory. Basic aspects of photographic cameras
14 – 17:Pratice on the field

Day 2
10 – 13: Image post – production. Downloading of the images, first critique, introduction to Photoshop
14 – 17: Photoshop elements and final critique

Cost: CHF 500.-

About Francesco:

Francesco is an experienced and published freelance photographer, who has worked for important museums and public institutions. He is a member of the Union Suisse des Photographes Professionnels (USPP) and currently Deputy Head of the Media Communications department and Coordinator of the Photography Program at Webster University Geneva. He has also organised a number of photography workshops including a summer programme in Italy and courses at Urbino Art Village, a centre for creative workshops in Italy.
