Multicultural day in la Pastorale Geneva – 6 September 2014

The Geneva Welcome Center (CAGI) is organising a multicultural day at la Pastorale in Geneva on 6 September 2014.

Between 3pm and midnight, visitors can discover activities prepared by about sixty local and international associations. The objective of this event is to connect NGOs and the Geneva public.

The event will feature interactive activities, photo exhibitions, short cultural documentary films, and world music including a DJ who will liven up the evening with reggaeton rhythms.

Participants will be able to learn how an old mobile phone can be recycled, what it is like to be a plaintiff at the European Court of Human Rights, or to tape and bandage up a wound. They will also be able to taste a margarita, the popular cocktail made with Tequila, which celebrates the 40th anniversary of its designation of origin label.

Uber – taxi service coming to Geneva

The US firm, Uber, is coming to Geneva. Already operating in Zurich, it aims to launch in Geneva, offering a similar model with a smoother interface and more business-like approach. The company will provide necessary competition to the current highly regulated environment consisting almost exclusively of cartels.

Visit CERN with CIPR – 22 May 2014

Visit CERN! The newly launched CIPR International Swiss Chapter has announced its next event; a chance to visit one of the underground experiments on the Large Hadron Collider. You will also have the opportunity to learn about CERN’s stakeholder communication strategy on a local, national and international level. The event takes place on 22 May.

Workshops for communicators – marketing, presentation skills, writing and media interviews – 13 June 2014

The Geneva Communicators Network is pleased to announce its next workshop day to help communicators in the Geneva region brush up on specific communications tasks.

Four one-day workshops will be run simultaneously, with a networking lunch to allow participants to mingle briefly. Each session will include a combination of theory and practice to help communicators improve their specific skills. The groups will be small (maximum 10)  to allow instructors to address each participants specific needs.

In a context where people are submerged in information, we need to find news ways to connect with our audiences. If you can demonstrate value or benefit of what you’re saying, you’ll keep the audience focused on you! This workshop will help you answer those questions and help to perfect your capacity as an effective communicator. Participants will be filmed throughout the workshop in order to maximize the experience with ongoing feedback from the trainers. This practical and interactive course will give you the skills for media interviews with the press, TV or radio. Given by a former BBC foreign correspondent, it will strip away misconceptions about what the media wants. It will show you how to control the interview and feel confident when speaking to journalists. As well as learning how the media operates and what the interviewer is looking for, you’ll be given mock radio and on camera interviews to give you a realistic experience
