Increasingly, organisations are using advocacy to bring about policy and practice change in a wide variety of areas, from public health to the environment.

However, there are specific challenges in being able to evaluate the contribution of advocacy to any progress seen.

This training will present an overview of the challenges faced, assess various methodologies and the possible solutions that exist to evaluate advocacy and public affairs initiatives, irrespective of location.

Free for members of the ECPA and a fee of 100 euros will be asked of non-members.

Applications are now open for the 2021 edition of the Executive programmes on Advocacy in International Affairs offered by the Graduate Institute, Geneva.

The programmes offer the analytical framework, practical tools, the leadership and communication skills to drive successful advocacy campaigns.

They are degree-granting, designed for professionals, and are organised in part-time modular format.

The dates for the Executive Certificate are as follows*:

• Module 1 – Context, Actors and Strategies: 14 to 17 April & 28 April to 1st May 2021 (live virtual classrooms)

• Module 2 – Analysis, Tactics and Tools: 22 to 30 June 2021 (Geneva)

Welcome to our first event for 2021, an online simulation game for communicators!

Come and play Corporate Snakes and Career Ladders, an on-line simulation that helps you navigate the ambiguity between communication theory and practice as you encounter real-life scenarios.

When you play Corporate Snakes and Career Ladders, you will take on the role of Carmen Spinoza, Corporate Communications Director of a major international company. You will be presented with a series of communication challenges which you need to resolve as a team. Your challenge is to think strategically and position yourself (aka Carmen) as a strategic adviser to the senior leadership team. How will you get – and keep – a seat at the table? The on-line taster workshop is a mini version of training that has been delivered to communication professionals around the world and is now coming to the Geneva Communications Network.

Can advocacy be a solution to foster action by governments and other actors? Join us to understand how some governments and interest groups advocate in difficult social and economic times.

A number of governments are resorting to a second round of restrictions to limit the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on their population and ease the burden on their public health sector. As a result, advocacy movements emerge – ranging from grassroots initiatives to interest groups representatives – trying to influence how public authorities manage the current crisis.

Can advocacy be a solution to foster action by governments and other actors? Join us to understand how some governments and interest groups advocate in difficult social and economic times.

The lack of concrete results of recent multilateral actions raises questions about the effectiveness of advocacy and public initiatives.

At the same time, an effective action at the international level is crucial to address the rising interconnected challenges our times are witnessing. Can advocacy be a solution to foster action by governments and international actors? What are the limits?

During this conference, you will understand how advocacy can help advance a cause at the international level, and you will think critically about its limits.

Join us to tackle those points and analyse the role of advocacy in two recent examples: COP 25 and the draft European Union bill on multinational companies’ tax transparency.
